About Margrit
Hello, welcome! My name is Margrit Rose Pittman-Polletta
I’m happy you found your way here.
I am an educator and a dedicated practitioner in the Insight Meditation tradition. I began meditating while working as a special education elementary school teacher in the New York City public schools. Experiencing new levels of stress as a teacher, and after trying to find my way out of suffering through all kinds of unsuccessful efforts, I found my way to the teaching of the Buddha and the practices of mindfulness and loving kindness.
After years of struggling with chronic pain due to physical tension in the body, and a forceful and relentless inner critic, I began to relate to myself with compassion and wisdom and saw that there was truly a different way that led to greater ease, acceptance, and even peace.I’ve worked as an educator in various contexts — even on a sailboat! — and am grateful that over the last several years, I have been able to weave the threads of practice with teaching and learning. This has taken the shape of teaching Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, an intensive secular training in Mindfulness, as well as offering teachings of the Buddhadhamma in various communities, including Brooklyn Insight Sangha, Elm Community Insight and New York Insight. I am also he current cohort of the Spirit Rock and Insight Meditation Society Retreat Teacher Training Program.
My practice is rooted in community, connecting with nature, both internally and externally, as well as exploring what it looks like to integrate every aspect of life into the practice.
If you’d like to practice together, check out my upcoming classes, or get in touch to connect one on one.
